Computer Systems Technology student and Indiana High School Sophomore, Haley Hibsman, will be presenting during a 2 hour poster session at the CUE National Conference in Palm Springs, California on March 16th. The CUE national conference, now in its 40th year, is the go-to event for educational technology and innovation and will host thousands of educational professionals during its four day conference.
Haley first began attending the CUE conferences about five years ago, with encouragement from her father, an English Professor at IUP. Haley’s love for technology is what initially inspired her initial interest in the event, which eventually evolved from an assistant presenter to her current status as main presenter. During these conference sessions, individuals can talk one-on-one with presenters and audience members. In order to become a presenter, entrants must complete applications and write an essay. The acceptance rate is very competitive, and each essay submitted is based off of what will be presented at the conference.
The focus of Haley’s presentation is technology use in the classroom. Even before she came to the ICTC this year, she has been researching computer systems, specifically for these presentations in California. She stated that her first year at the ICTC has helped her with her technology research, but she went into Computer Systems Technology with previous knowledge of computers. During the presentations, Haley and her father discuss how technology can be used to successfully engage and instruct K-12 students and adults.
Haley loves the conferences because it gives her experience speaking in front of large groups which is great on her resume, allows her to meet people in the technology field, and most importantly, is an important bonding moment between her and her dad. We wish Haley and her dad safe travels and a wonderful presentation next week!
