The Indiana County Technology Center is celebrating the accomplishments of Senior Welding Technology and Purchase Line Senior, Dakota Ewing. Dakota was recently announced a recipient of the national Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Education Foundation’s PRIME scholarship. Approximately 70 students applied for this application and 5 or less students have received it
Since Dakota was a young boy, he has been fascinated by making things “work”. He was inspired to pursue a career in manufacturing from childhood, growing up alongside family members who worked in the trades. Dakota first remembers becoming fascinated with welding at the age of 12 during a visit to a family friend’s welding shop. The $1,600 SME scholarship will allow Dakota to pursue his dream job in the manufacturing industry. He plans to attend Penn College to pursue a Degree in Welding Engineering.
In order to qualify for the scholarship, students had to complete an online application, write an essay explaining their desire to pursue a career in manufacturing. They must also have a GPA of at least 3.0. Scholarships are awarded annually and can be renewed every year. Award money may be used for tuition, or books related to attaining a technical education.
