#13.0101 (Teacher Prep Program)
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Rising Educator Program is a collaborative initiative between ICTC and the Indiana Area School District. The program will operate out of Indiana Area High School for half of the academic day. The other half of the student’s day will be spent at their sending school taking core classes and other required graduation credits. Student transportation will be provided by the sending school and students drivers are permitted with administrative approval.
Participating students will gain experience in teaching pedagogy and working with children through preschool up to high school age students. These experiences will take place as part of their interactive field-experiences during their junior and senior years.
Our curriculum combines Rising Educators course work, the study of child development and field experience opportunities to work with teachers and students within participating school districts. Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors are eligible for enrollment if they are currently enrolled in an Indiana County Technology Center (ICTC) sending school and have the desire to get a head start in preparing for a future career in education or a child-related career.
Participating students who successfully complete the program can take advantage of articulation and dual enrollment agreements at no additional or minimal costs. The credits earned through this program can be directly applied to a teaching degree. These credits in conjunction with any credits earned through the sending school can greatly reduce the amount of time required to complete a post-secondary teaching degree.
