ICTC TO HOST 9TH GRADE SHADOW STUDENTS

The Indiana County Technology Center (ICTC) is preparing to host up to 300 shadow students in the next few weeks. The scheduled shadowing experience is a result of the ninth grade showcase event that took place in November 2016, when students were introduced to all of the ICTC program offerings.

The shadow experience is open to any student within our sending districts who demonstrates an interest in a career and technical program at the ICTC. In order to ensure proper placement and success in the program, shadowing is a part of the procedure in the enrollment process. Students typically choose two programs to shadow during the morning or afternoon session. They participate in hands-on projects in the classroom alongside current ICTC students. This process ensures that students are in a program that reflects their interests and career goals. Emphasis is placed on shadowing prior to scheduling for the 2017-18 school year. However, interested students are always welcome to visit the ICTC. The number of students interested in shadowing this year has significantly increased over previous years. This increase may be a result of the recent national spotlight on Career and Technical Education. Career and Technical Education Programs, like those offered at the ICTC, have been cited by researchers and business leaders around the country as a solution to America’s shortage of skilled labor.

Students are encouraged to discuss their program choices and career options in detail with parents. Parents and students are also encouraged to attend the ICTC Career Night Open House on February 2nd from 6-7:30pm to talk one-on-one with instructors. 18
