ICTC TO HOST AREA 9th GRADE STUDENTS

The Indiana County Technology Center’s Masonry students prepare to welcome area 9th graders. Row One: Melissa Coffman, Mr. Christopher Shirley (Masonry Instructor), and Brandon Brewer. Row Two: Kevin Reed and David Bailey. Row Three: Alex Smith, Henry Deabenderfer, and Dennis George.

Indiana County Technology Center is preparing to host over 800 ninth grade students during the annual Showcase event on January 25, 26, 29, and 30th . The event will welcome area Ninth graders from Marion Center, Penns Manor, Homer Center, Purchase Line, Blairsville, Saltsburg, United, and Indiana with a hero-themed tour of the facility. Students will be introduced to the ICTC through a video produced by the Digital Media Technology students, themed “Everyday Heroes.” The video highlights the importance of skilled labor in the American workforce and how the decision to enroll in a skilled labor trade can transform a student’s future as an “every day hero”. You don’t need Batman, Superman, or even Wonder Woman to be a hero – a nurse, carpenter, or even a welder can fill positions desperately needed to secure our nation’s economy!

Each student will experience a personal tour through all ICTC program areas, participate in interactive activities and enjoy a lunch time activity. Most importantly, the students will be introduced to the amazing benefits a Career and Technical Education can provide. They will see how Career and Technical Education can prepare them to become college and career ready with hands-on technical training from experienced instructors, industry certifications, and opportunities to earn college credits. This showcase event will provide ninth graders with a unique glimpse into the reality of this type of educational option.

Students Interested in enrolling have the opportunity to shadow programs of interest in February. Parents are urged to discuss with their child the opportunities available at the ICTC.
