THE ICTC’S CONTINUITY OF EDUCATION PLAN

Please take time to read our Continuity of Education Plan.

Dear ICTC Students, Parents and Staff:

Our leadership team has participated in several virtual meetings over the course of the last week that provided guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) in regards to continuity of education planning. Each school in the state was presented with three options to provide continuity of education to students. Our team has decided that the best option for students attending the Indiana County Technology Center is a combination of Planned Instruction, Enrichment and Review.

The following is list of what the requirements are for the ICTC’s Continuity of Education Plan.

  • Teachers will be required to provide daily enrichment or review activities for students
  • The teacher will use student email, google classroom, or another means of communication to give clear and concise directions to students on how to access their program areas daily activities.
  • Teachers will monitor and provide feedback for students who chose to complete and submit the activity.
  • Although student participation in the enrichment and review activities is voluntary, the Indiana County Technology Center is strongly encouraging students to engage in these activities.
  • Teachers are not permitted to grade the enrichment/review activities or make participation a condition that will impact a student’s grade.
  • Planned instruction will be assessed in order to provide certification attainment.

Prior to students leaving on Friday, March 13, 2020 our instructors spoke to their students and provided them with a 14-day enrichment packet. As part of these discussions, teachers surveyed their students’ technology capabilities and gave specific directions for how they would communicate with them. If students were unable to access the packets online a hard copy was supplied to them. The Indiana County Technology Center will continue to use the established protocols to provide planned instruction, enrichment and review activities to our students.
For students who receive support services our Learning Facilitator Mrs. Toni Shaffer will be contacting you directly to discuss how support services will be delivered during the duration of the mandated closure.
Teachers will be updating and adding additional activities for their students to participate in by Thursday, April 2, 2020. This is certainly a unique situation in education and our students, parents and staff have been very supportive throughout the mandated closure. We appreciate your continued patience as we work through issues that we might experience as we continue to implement our continuity of education plan. If you have any questions or experience any issues during the implementation of our continuity of education plan email me at mworthington@ictc.edu and I will respond to your concern as quickly as possible.
I’m proud of the ICTC community and appreciate your compassion and resiliency through these difficult times. I encourage you to continue to follow the safety recommendations of the CDC and on behalf of the Indiana County Technology Center, I look forward to the time when we will see each other again.

Sincerely,
Michael Worthington
Principal
